Your wine was never the problem. It just never got any air.
A supermarket red is bottled young, and young is exactly when it's harshest, tight, sharp, drying. The fix has existed for two hundred years: give it an hour in a decanter and it comes round.
Nobody does it. You decide to open wine about ninety seconds before you want to drink it.
This gives the wine that air on the way to your glass, and then does something no decanter can, it takes the air back out of the bottle behind you.
